Try the built-in guide
The full user guide ships inside the app; open Help ▸ User Guide in a character window. Its Troubleshooting & FAQ chapter covers the common snags: imports, maps, triggers that won't fire.
Note what happened
Tell us exactly what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead, including any on-screen message, word for word. Your AKAMud version (Help ▸ About AKAMud) helps too.
Crashed? Grab crash.log
If the app crashed, attach crash.log from your data folder (by default Documents\AKAMud). It holds technical error details only, no game text and no passwords, though file paths inside it can include your Windows account name.
Privacy
Your data stays on your machine
There are no accounts and no sign-up. Your characters, settings, maps and logs live in plain files in your own data folder: copy that folder and you have a backup, point AKAMud somewhere else and it follows. AKAMud checks akamud.com to see whether a newer version is out, and the opt-in Send to phone transfer runs over your own Wi-Fi between your two devices. The desktop client never downloads or installs anything on its own; an update is always you choosing to run the new installer.

Top questions
Windows said it "protected your PC". Is the installer safe?
That's Windows SmartScreen being cautious about a free app from a small publisher: it appears for any download it hasn't seen many times before, not because anything is wrong. Click More info, then Run anyway. But only for an installer from the download page, or one whose SHA-256 matches the checksum published there.
How do I update AKAMud?
Use Help ▸ Check for Updates in a character window (or the link at the bottom of the Character Picker). If a newer version exists, AKAMud offers to open the download page; run the new installer over the top. Your characters, settings, maps and layouts are untouched.
Where does my data live?
In the data folder you chose when installing (by default Documents\AKAMud). That one folder holds your characters, settings, maps, layouts, sounds and logs; copy it and you've backed up everything. To move it, re-run the installer and choose a new location.
Is AKAMud really free?
Yes: free for playing text MUDs, no charge, no time limit, no sign-up. It's provided as-is, without warranty; the short, readable terms are in the LICENSE, and the download page has the summary.
